Cone Beam CT ImagingOur practice utilizes a state-of-the-art cone-beam CT (computed tomography) technology that provides highly accurate 3-D radiographic images for diagnosis, planning and treatment of your oral surgery problem.
Three-dimensional images of the jaws, teeth, soft tissues and facial bones enable a detailed level of anatomical accuracy and patient care not possible with standard dental or facial x-rays. In addition, this technology is quick and convenient since it is done in our office and is extremely cost effective. We invite you to inquire about this exciting technology. Dental ImplantsDental implants are a permanent solution to restore missing teeth. They replace teeth with something that looks, feels, and functions naturally. Implants are used to restore one or more teeth and can even secure slipping or loose dentures.
Dental implants are surgically placed in your jawbone, where they serve as the roots of your missing teeth. Because the titanium in the implants fuses with your jaw, the implants won't slip, make noise or cause bone damage the way fixed bridgework or dentures might. And the materials can't decay like your own teeth that support regular bridgework can. Dr. Payne will work closely with you and your dentist to enhance the functionality and beauty of your smile. We look forward to discussing this exciting and rewarding treatment option with you. Call 719-542-4546 to schedule a consultation today. Wisdom Teeth RemovalYour wisdom teeth or third molars erupt between the ages of 16 and 21. If a wisdom tooth doesn't have room to grow (impacted), resulting in pain, infection or other dental problems, you'll likely need to have it removed. We take x-rays to evaluate your wisdom teeth and determine if removal is necessary. We discuss the treatment with you and any complications that could arise.
Depending on the number of wisdom teeth and the difficulty of removal, we may discuss putting you to sleep to remove them. This will be discussed at your consultation appointment with us. Our facility is equipped to keep you safe and comfortable when undergoing this procedure. After the removal of your wisdom teeth, we will go over instructions to help you heal. ExtractionsWhen a denture is made, it relies on the tissue and bone for support. After teeth are extracted, sometimes the bone is uneven and has sharp areas. By smoothing these areas, the denture is more comfortable to wear and easier to adjust to. There are also times that there is too much bone present and the denture cannot fit over the ridge. In these cases, bone is also removed to allow for a better fitting and more comfortable denture. In other cases like excessive tooth decay, tooth infection, and crowding a tooth extraction may also be required.
Bone GraftingSome people have trouble wearing dentures and partials. When the amount of bone is inadequate and implants are needed, bone grafts are sometimes required. Bone grafts can be placed to replace the missing bone. Dr. Payne will make an incision in the jaw and graft (attach) other bone material to the jaw. There are several ways dental bone grafting can be done. We go over the options available and determine which one will be the best for each patient's situation and restorative needs.
PathologyThe inside of the mouth can many times be the first sign of disease. The tissue in the mouth is normally a coral pink color. When an area of discoloration appears, it can be a sign of something going on in your body. The most serious of these is oral cancer. If you notice a red or white area, or a lump or bump that does not go away, then you need to be checked by your general dentist or an oral surgeon.
Dr. Payne welcomes the opportunity to check these areas of concern for you and if needed, send off for a biopsy to get a definitive diagnosis. It is important for you to check your lips, palate, inside of cheeks, tongue, and gums for any abnormal areas. If you do notice something of concern, then please call us. Facial Trauma & Reconstructive SurgeryInjury to the mouth or face can be very traumatic. Not only does it cause physical damage, but it also can impact the person emotionally. These types of injuries are caused by accidents involving sports, cars, altercations, and work. Dr. Payne has been trained as an Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon to repair trauma to the face and mouth. It is his goal to treat these types of injuries by keeping the patient comfortable and meeting their aesthetic needs.
