Brandon C. Payne, DDS, MD Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon
Dr. Brandon Payne has been practicing oral and maxillofacial surgery in Pueblo since 2011. Although he circled the midwest for college, dental school, medical school and residency, he returned with his family to his hometown of Pueblo to live and work. He is excited to be able to provide surgical care to the community that he grew up with, as well as the entire region of Southern Colorado.
He graduated with honors in the top of his class from University of Colorado College of Dentistry, receiving his Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS). He was then accepted into the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency program at University of Missouri - Kansas City and graduated from the UMKC School of Medicine, receiving hisDoctorate of Medicine (MD). He served as Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Chief Resident at Truman Medical Center, Children's Mercy Hospital and St. Luke's Hospital.
Following residency, Dr. Brandon Payne joined his father, Dr. Wayne Payne, in clinical practice. His vision of the optimal patient experience was realized with the inception of Southern Colorado Oral & Facial Surgery (SCOFS). With attention to every detail defining Dr. Brandon Payne's philosophy, from the moment you enter SCOFS, you are intensely aware you are being treated in a state-of-the-art-facility. He has brought together a team of professionals whose focus is providing uncompromised care in an unparalleled setting. Whether it is replacing teeth with implants, removing wisdom teeth or treating emergent conditions in the hospital, he will make sure you receive the best possible care.
When out of the office, Dr. Payne loves to go on good Colorado adventures with his family. From Skiing at Monarch, to biking at the Pueblo Reservoir, our region just calls him to go outside and enjoy it all. The Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon
Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are the surgical specialists of the dental profession. Their extensive education and training, surgical expertise and unparalleled understanding of aesthetics and function uniquely qualify them to treat the conditions, defects, injuries and aesthetic aspects of the mouth, teeth, jaws and face. The word ''maxillofacial'' refers to the jaws and face.
Following 4 years of undergraduate school, and 4 years of dental school, oral and maxillofacial surgeons complete 4-6 years in a hospital-based surgical residency program.
Competition is intense for these OMS training slots – only abut 170 are available each year in the U.S. and most programs will only consider candidates in the top 10% of their dental school class.
During residency, they train in internal medicine, general surgery and anesthesiology, and also spend time in otolaryngology, plastic surgery, and emergency medicine. Their training focuses on the hard (ie, bone) and soft (ie, skin, muscle) tissue of the face, mouth, and jaws.
Dr. Brandon Payne also completed his Doctorate of Medicine (MD) and is a licensed physician as well as a dentist.
At the conclusion of this training, oral and maxillofacial surgeons are well-prepared to:
Manage diseases of the teeth and their supporting soft and hard tissues.
Surgically reconstruct inadequate bone structure in the jaw area.
Evaluate, plan a course of treatment and place dental implants to replace one, two or a mouthful of missing teeth.
Expertly treat head and neck trauma and injuries to the face, jaws, mouth and teeth.
Diagnose and treat facial pain.
Diagnose and treat tumors and other diseases in the maxillofacial region.
Perform corrective jaw surgery to improve the function and appearance of patients with jaw deformities.
Diagnose and surgically treat obstructive sleep apnea.
Enhance facial appearance and function.
